It’s a Wrap!

It’s been a busy January! Along with our friend and colleague Kristine Metter, MS, CAE, we just finished up the second session of Mastering Your Volunteer Liaison Role. The daylong session, part of a two-part program, was a masterclass on honing volunteer liaison skills via a collaborative environment where attendees worked through scenarios and offered each other support and advice.

This unique two-part program (consisting of a virtual session + in-person session) was born out of a discussion between Peggy and Kristine to address the lack of training for association staff working directly with volunteers and volunteer groups. The program delves into the essentials of volunteer management with a deep dive into the practical applications of best practices.

During the training, we focused on five ways you can use your role as a liaison to build a successful partnership between you and your volunteers as well as between your volunteers and the association. Check out Partnering for Volunteer Success part 1 and part 2 for more.

Volunteer liaisons are a key component of building a holistic approach to volunteer management that serves both the organization and volunteer systems equally and effectively. Investing in the right training and mentoring projects for your staff will go a long way to making sure they are successful in that role.

In the coming months, we’ll be working on more opportunities for you and your colleagues to participate in the training. Stay tuned!
