In a recent LI post, association pro Lowell Aplebaum, EdD, FASAE, CAE, CPF reminds us that “when the person leading the room is running on empty, the whole system feels it.”
His post is a reference to a January ASAE article, Sustaining Mental and Physical Health as a CSE, on the critical need for association execs to prioritize a sustainable work-life balance. The article shares findings from a recent survey of nearly 150 chief staff executives, revealing high levels of stress, burnout, and ongoing mental and physical health challenges. It’s more than just data—it’s a wake-up call for our sector to take well-being seriously.
Our monthly virtual meet-up is a highlight for me, serving as a critical self-care break with fellow CEOs from companies partnering with associations. The ASAE article beautifully underscores the need for candid conversations and safe spaces. It’s exactly what we aim for in our “safe hour”—a time to practice critical care and openly discuss challenges.
How do you take time?
