their talents. And for sharing those talents with their chapters. Whether it’s
through making that all-important connection, sharing an expertise with the group,
or taking the lead on issues important to the association, these volunteers help everyone succeeds.

The Washington DC Metro Chapter of Appraisal Institute prides
itself on being a resource for appraisers trying to navigate through an often-confusing
regulatory landscape. For example, one of today’s hot-button issues is the environmental
risks associated with the property appraisals. What does this all mean and how
can an appraiser protect himself and his client? Thanks to board member Brian
Ginter, some of this mystery will be revealed as he shares his expertise on environmental
issues in commercial and residential appraisals during a FREE Webinar
in May. Kudos to Brian for not only offering his knowledge, but his time as
well. That’s sharing at its best.
PRSA Maryland is lucky
as well because they have Sandy Arnett, APR … manager of Public Relations at
Verizon Communications by day and PRSA Maryland’s PR guru by night. Sandy
applies her talents to lead the chapter’s press relations and member communications
efforts. Whether it’s writing a press release, using her sharp eye to edit
promotional materials, or leading the social media team, Sandy is ready to jump
in at a moment’s notice. Now that’s raising the bar on volunteerism!
At the Maryland Recycling Network, there’s also a number of members
that share their talents. Take member Lori Scozzafava who used her US
Composting Council connections to put together a great series of organics
sessions for 2015 MRN/SWANA-MA
Conference coming this June. On the Legislative front, Charlie Reighart
connected MRN with Delegates Steve Lafferty and Dana Stein to discuss pending
legislation that would have a huge impact on the recycling industry in
Maryland. And all his hard work paid off when one
bill want back to the drawing board at the suggestion of MRN! Two members
who didn’t hesitate to make those calls when needed.
ANEX/Columbia Idea Swap, an informal networking group
connected with ASAE’s
Greater Washington Network, meets monthly to share ideas and solve problems
of our group of association professionals. Each month, one of us steps up to
the plate to be the content leader. We provide our expertise and experience on
a topic to guide a conversation. Next week on April 21st, our
volunteer is Sharon
Kneebone who’ll be leading the conversation on Boards Behaving Badly (you
