Associations Respond to Harvey

The Power of A is why we are association professionals and built our business in this transformative industry. We see the power of A throughout the year as associations programs and efforts reach individuals around the globe from setting standards and guiding regulations and legislation to innovating products and processes to extending a helping hand. The power of A is on full display as the country attends to Hurricane Harvey.

Here is a mere sampling of responses:

American Academy of Pediatrics is ready year-round through its chapter system; each chapter aims to identify one or more “pediatric champions” or chapter contacts who mobilize disaster preparedness and response efforts in their state. The effectiveness of this strategy is on display in Texas where the Texas Pediatric Society is offering resources and personal assistance.

American Bar Association is coordinating volunteer efforts to get people connected to legal help. This coordination includes rolling out on-demand CLE programs free for any attorney who wants information to help survivors.

National Education Association established a Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund to assist members and others while NEA MB’s benefit partners are offering special accommodations to members in need.

American School Counselor Association offers an extensive resource list for helping kids deal with hurricanes and floods.

The National Association of School Psychologists has free materials – in Spanish for parents – to support school communities and families in the aftermath of the hurricane and floods.

National Speakers Association’s response to the crisis includes personal outreach to all TX members, establishing a policy that anyone who answers yes to the question, “Do you need help?” will
get a $1000 check immediately with entreaty to ask for more if needed. They set up a fund to raise money and the association itself is covering processing fees so every penny goes directly to the members in need. Here’s the video of the message:
