Getting the digital generations engaged in our association is a constant conversation. I think we are better off in many cases asking our own members from these generations than scouring research. Which is why I find the work from the ASAE NextGen Project a useful guide. The NextGen project comes out of a facilitated discovery session of NextGen professionals. Here a few pointers:
1. Offer mentoring and coaching.
2. Develop meaningful career pathways that show them where to start, what to consider, and what steps to take. Include vivid descriptions of the ultimate destinations on each path.
3. Do your part to assert the importance of younger members in your association ecosystem and reinforce, by extension, their value to employers as well.
4. Address dues issues so you don’t out-price younger members and lock them out of the system.
