We take a look at an association that saw a troubling trend that drove them to look closely at member engagement, member components and volunteerism. They recognized that while its membership base was growing, satisfaction with the association wasn’t. Plus, the association was struggling to maintain a strong leadership base. Determined to correct these issues, even if it meant upsetting the status quo, the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) reached out to its current volunteers and staff for solutions. What occurred was a partnership between association staff and volunteers resulting in a new and improved organization model, better member engagement, and an effective volunteer-management plan.
